Almaden Valley Rotary was chartered on May 9, 1969
The Rotary Club of Almaden Valley was sponsored by the Rotary Club of San Jose. In 1968 the San Jose club appointed a membership development committee to survey and project the subsequent population growth of this rapidly growing area in the southern reaches of the city limits.
It immediately became evident that a population explosion was about to take place in this heretofore sparsely populated area.
Our club of 23 new charter members received our charter on May 9, 1969 at a festive ceremony held at the San Jose Hyatt House. The District Governor of 513, Robert Barwick, presented us with our charter. There were representatives and their Rotary Anns from nearly every club in our old district and most Rotary Clubs that made a financial contribution to help us get on our feet.
Our Charter President, Fred Eberle, displayed great leadership ability and by the end of our first year, even though we were a group of green and inexperienced Rotarians, we were already known for our enthusiasm, spirit and dedication to the objectives of Rotary.
